Schools perform better when they are organized as professional learning communities. These are communities where people work together in commitment to a common purpose and each other. Communities focus on and promote the learning of children and adults in and around the school in a professional way that engages staff in dialogue about how to improve on the basis of a blend between evidence and intuition.
This session describes not only how to create professional communities, but also how to sustain them, drawing on seven principles of sustainability outlined and exemplified in Andy Hargreaves new book “Sustainable Leadership” (Wiley 2006).
